Pioneers from the United States, Canada, Argentina and other Latin American countries today established a communal settlement in the northwestern area of the Negev. Some of the settlers are veterans of Israel’s war of liberation who came to this country from North and South America.

Three months ago an advance party established temporary quarters in tents on the site of the settlement, which is called Kissufim. This party ploughed and planted 2,000 acres of land. Construction will begin immediately on the four buildings, which will house the settlers and their families, and on the workshop, nursery and stable. Present at the ceremony inaugurating the settlement were representatives of the United Kibbutz Council, with which Kissufim is affiliated, World Zionist Congress delegates, Argentine Minister Pablo Manguel and others.
