Swiss Jews are finding it difficult to obtain kosher meat supplies owing to the French ban on the export of meat and livestock to Switzerland. The Union of Swiss Jewish Communities is considering proposals for obtaining kosher meat from other countries. Ritual slaughter (Shechita) was banned in Switzerland in 1893.
