A memorial to South African Jews who died in the armed services of their country during World War II and in defending Israel during the War of Liberation was unveiled here. Leading members of the community and civil and military personalities attended the ceremonies.
The memorial consists of six plaques listing the names of some 400 Jews who died during the World War and nine who gave their lives for the Jewish state. Services were conducted by several rabbis, including Major S. Weinstein, who was Jewish chaplain of the Union’s forces during the second World War.
