About 40 passengers, most of them Jewish, who arrived last night at the airport here on a British plane from Israel, reported that they were searched by Egyptian officials in Cairo when they landed there after their plane developed engine trouble. The Egyptian authorities have confiscated some of their personal belongings, the passengers complained.

The British Overseas Airways today explained that its planes flying from the Israeli airport of Lydda to London do not usually make any stop-over in Cairo because of the Arab-Jewish tension. However, yesterday the plane had no choice but to make a forced landing on Egyptian soil because of engine trouble which developed after leaving Lydda.
