Israel Labor Favors Move to Seek German Restitution

The Labor newspaper Davar, official organ of the Histadrut, lashed out today against critics of moves to obtain restitution from Germany for Jewish victims of the Nazi regime.

The paper said that the New York conference on claims against Germany was not taking up the issue on a political or national basis, but had to determine whether there was realistic, concrete value in Germany’s recent declaration. It pointed out that the Israeli Parliament had taken an unquestionable attitude on the issue and declared that the Knesset, rather than the critics, represented the position of the declared that the Knesset, rather than the critics, represented the position of the nation and of the Jewish people on this “bitter account which eternity cannot settle.”
