Some 350 Israeli seamen today “resigned” form their jobs in a dispute between the seamen’s union and the Histadrut. As a result. three Israeli vessels are tied up in the harbor here.
Seamen’s union officials are currently in Jerusalem conferring with Histadrut secretary-general Mordecai Namir over the Histadrut’s refusal to accede to a demand that the seamen’s union have its own hiring offices, as exist for other trades. The Histadrut, meanwhile, has called the seamens’ “resignation” unjustified.
