The present good relations between Britain and Israel were welcomed in the House of Commons today by Herbert Morrison, former Foreign Secretary in the Labor Government.
Mr. Morrison expressed the hope that this state of affairs would continue and added that good relations between Israel and the Arab states would be a “great blessing” for the whole of the Middle East and for the peace of that important part of the world. He asserted that one of the major problems facing Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden is the maintenance of good relations with both Israel and the Arab states.
Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden is busily working behind the scenes to improve Arab-Israel relations in the Middle East, it was reported here today. The report said that Secretary Eden has already met with Arab delegations at the Paris meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, and that he is scheduled to confer with Israeli Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett this week. It was stated that Mr. Eden told the Arabs that he hoped to see the Palestine Arab refugee problem settled at the current Assembly session.
