The condition of President Chaim Weizmann remained of grave concern today as the 77-year-old chief executive fought against pneumonia. A medical bulletin issued this evening said the symptoms of acute inflammation of the respiratory tract were passing but that the general state of weakness connected with the functioning of his heart and blood circulation continues. A communique issued from the President’s office said there was no change in his condition but that the heart was weakening. The statement expressed thanks to all those throughout the world who had sent messages expressing wishes for the president’s recovery and said:
“From his sickbed, the President continues his efforts for stabilization of the State and calls on all to abandon their temporary disagreements and divergencies to work for the further development and stabilization of the State.”
Hundreds of messages are being received here by wire and telephone wishing Dr. Weizmann speedy recovery. Today, a group of children from a nearby school visited his home to present 18 trees to be planted in the President’s grove in the Keren Kayemeth Forest. The number 18 signifies “life” in Hebrew letters.
