Burton Berry Named Acting Secretary of State for Near East

The State Department today announced the resignation of Burton Y. Berry as Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs. In his foreign service career, Berry was at one time stationed in Egypt.

Dr. Haim J. Zadok, Deputy Attorney General of Israel, arrived in Washington today for meetings with leaders of the government and the American labor movement. He is scheduled to meet with Chief Justice Fred Vinson, of the Supreme Court; Federal Security Administrator Oscar R. Ewing; Secretary of Labor Maurice J. Tobin; Attorney General J. Howard McGrath, and others.
