A half of the 14,000 Jews still living in Czechoslovakia have applied for permission to leave the country, according to a report reaching here today from Prague.
The report said that no cultural Jewish activity exists in Czechoslovakia and that the synagogues there are empty because the Jews are afraid to enter them. Orthodox Jews are required to work on the Sabbath under the existing laws.
Another report said that several hundred Jews were among the people recently deported from their homes in Hungary to unknown destinations. They include rabbis, community leaders, intellectuals and workers. There are still 140,000 Jews residing in Hungary, the report stated.
