The World Jewish Congress has closed its office in this country and Ernest Stiassny, director of the bureau since it was opened here in 1947, is returning to the United States.
At a farewell party in his honor, Mr. Stiassny said that Austrian Jewry’s main task in 1952 is to fight for the establishment of an heirless Jewish property fund. He expressed the opinion that the position of Austrian Jews has deteriorated in the past five years. Other speakers, including Israeli consul Arie Eshel, voiced regret at the closing of the W.J.C. office and the departure of Mr. Stiassny.
