Nicaragua acceded today to the convention on the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide. In a ceremony this morning at the United Nations legal department, Rene Schick, Charge d’Affaires of the Nicaraguan Embassy at Washington, deposited his government’s instrument of accession. Nicaragua is the 33rd state to ratify, accede or accept the convention on genocide, which came into force on January 12, 1951.
