Israel’s Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett and British Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden will meet here tomorrow to discuss various problems concerning Anglo-Israel relations.
The British press suggests that one of the main subjects of the discussion will be the possibility of a peace settlement between Egypt and Israel. It points out that Britain could more easily make concessions on the evacuation of the Suez Canal zone if there were a permanent Israeli-Egyptian settlement. The press also emphasizes that this would facilitate Egyptian participation in the Middle East defense.
At the same time, the press here is of the opinion that it may be necessary to discount Egyptian peace feelers for the time being, in view of the fact that the Arab League will probably obstruct any easing of Arab-Israeli tension. (The American press has taken note of the Egyptian feelers, but neither the State Department nor the Israel Embassy in Washington had any comment on them.)
