The Ford Foundation’s Board on Overseas Training and Research announced this week-end that it was prepared to grant fellowships to as many as 100 American men and women who wished to pursue studies dealing with Asia and the Near and Middle East. The fellowships would be granted for periods of from one to three years.
A sum of $500,000 has been allocated for the fellowships and for administration expenses. The fellowships are subject to the general limitation that the candidates must be United States citizens and “ordinarily” not have reached their fifty-fifth birthday. They will be available to students who will complete their undergraduate work this year and to men and women who have done graduate work relating to the specified areas. Also eligible are persons who have had experience or are now engaged in business, government, agriculture or labor relations or training in economics, education, engineering, journalism, law and other fields regardless of whether they have lived and worked in the areas.
