Jewish cooperatives in Poland are being forced out of existence, according to reports received here today from Warsaw. They said the Polish Government is taking official measures designed to get all Jews into heavy industry.
Wages in Jewish cooperative shops have been leveled to those of state shops and government officials are using all pressure possible to persuade Jewish tailors, shoemakers and building workers to enter nationalized industries. The few who have done so are featured in the Communist Jewish press. The authorities are also reported planning drastic limitation of the Jewish cooperatives which have, since the war, given a number of Jewish workers their means of livelihood.
