A series of resolutions aimed at providing greater assistance and protection to migrants was adopted here this week-end at the conclusion of a six-day conference of 57 non-governmental organizations interested in refugee and migration work. The conference took place under the auspices of the United Nations and the International Labor Organization.

One resolution called on the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees and other interested inter-governmental agencies to cooperate in the removal of difficulties encountered by refugees in obtaining immigration visas because of minor offenses committed under wartime conditions. A second resolution called for concerted action to remove obstacles in the way of refugees belonging to professional groups who are blocked from obtaining permits to practice their professions in the country of resettlement.

The conference also called on the U.N. and specialized agencies to prepare a compilation of the basic national laws and regulations of major countries of immigration on the admissability of migrants. It proposed that its interim committee arrange for a comparative analysis of these laws. Arthur Greenleigh, head of the United Service for New Americans, was elected chairman of the interim committee.
