A drive to recruit qualified teachers in America for service in Israeli schools and a program to give advanced and post-graduate students in various scientific and technical fields an opportunity to serve apprenticeships in Israel were announced here today by the Jewish Agency.
The Agency pointed out that a 100 percent increase in teachers in the four years of Israel’s existence has been outstripped by a 150 percent rise in the numbers of students. It revealed that the Israel Government seeks American teachers to teach general subjects, the sciences and Hebrew for a period of at least two years, although teachers willing to remain for only one year will also be accepted.
The jobs offered advanced students are open for the summer to student architechts, engineers, surveyors, draftsmen, chemists, physicists, medical and dental students, laboratory aids, machinists and other technicians. The apprentices will be paid a salary to cover living expenses in Israel, including rentals, but will have to pay their own fare to and from Israel.
