Charges that the French Government is “using” Tunisian Jews against the Moslems, and that this caused the rioting in the French protectorate, are being broadcast by radio stations in Arab League countries. A Bagdad broadcast said France has “resorted to exploiting the services of Tunisian Jews, since in Tunisia there is a large Jewish minority which imperialism can easily instigate against Arabs and Moslems.”

The Arabs said Israel became a “jester” because” it imagines it can protect Tunisian Jews.” Israel’s views on Tunisia were condemned as the statements of “the chosen people of God, who were obviously chosen to disseminate intrigue and sedition in every place and at all times.”

Tension in Tunis has abated in the last few days following Arab attacks on Jews which cost the life of one young Jew and the injury of several others, Dr G. Riegner, member of the World Jewish Congress executive, said today on his return from Tunis. He paid tribute to the efficiency and composure of the leaders of the Jewish community and to the fine bearing of the Jewish youth which, he said, had shown a spirit of cohesion and of readiness to defend vigorously the interests of the community.

Dr. Riegner said he was confident the authorities will conduct the appropriate investigation into the disorders and reveal the circumstances. He said testimony recently obtained indicated that the death of the young Jew was due to the isolated action of one of the members of the “Service d’Ordre.”
