The 29 the annual convention of the Hapoel Hamizrachi, Zionist Orthodox Labor Organization of America, today adopted a resolution asking President Truman to stimulate direct peace negotiations between Israel and the Arab countries. The 500 delegates attending the convention also expressed thanks to Mr. Truman and to the U.S. Congress for American aid to Israel.
Another resolution welcomed the decision of the Israel Government to grant the World Zionist movement a special status. However, the resolution pointed out that the draft law to this effect presented by the government to the Israel Parliament is not entirely satisfactory. The resolution expressed hope that the leaders of the Jewish Agency would succeed in influencing Parliament to modify the law in the spirit of the decision adopted by the World Zionist Congress.
The convention called upon American Jewry to participate in the “Hahkel”–world gathering of Orthodox Jewry–in Jerusalem which is scheduled to take place next year. Other resolutions pledged aid to the Israel bond drive and to the Jewish National Fund.
