The Government of Israel is, for the first time, attempting to secure steel for building purposes in exchange for large stores of scrap metal left in Palestine after the war by British motorized units. An experimental shipment of 1,000 tons of scrap metal has already been dispatched to Genoa and additional shipments will be made if the plan proves satisfactory.
