President Truman indicated today that he may address the Jewish Welfare Board’s Second Annual Leadership Mobilization for GI’s and Community Service which opens in Washington on October 17. He told this to J.W.B. leaders who called at the White House today.

Sam Gershovitz, J.W.B. executive vice-president, reported that the President said he would be “very happy” to accept the invitation, provided his commitments “as a man in the ranks of the Democratic Party” in pre-election activity would permit him to do so. Mr. Gershovitz and Phil Schiff, J.W.B. ‘s Washington representative, talked with the President for about 15 minutes. They discussed the work of the J.W.B. in its widespread program of morale and spiritual services.

Leaders of the armed services are expected to attend the October conference along with Jewish Welfare Board officials and supporters from throughout the nation.
