The West German Government has received with reserve protests by the ex-Mufti of Jerusalem and other Arab circles over its payment of reparations to Israel, it was learned here today. Nor are government circles taking too seriously the threats of Arab countries to sever their commercial ties with Germany over this issue, it was also indicated.

The Syrian consul general in Germany, during a visit to the German Foreign Office, expressed misgivings over the German reparations payments, insisting that payment of reparations would materially aid Israel which, he said, was still at war with the Arab states. (From Jordan it was reported that the Amman Government has threatened to sever commercial relations with Germany, maintaining that cash payments to Israel would increase the Jewish State’s power and endanger peace in the Middle East.”)
