A 300-dunam tract of land east of the Jordan, ownership of which had been disputed by Jordan, has been brought under cultivation, it was learned today. Two years ago, Arab Legion units occupying the area disputed Israel attempts to plow the land and a clash followed. The Jordan-Israel Mixed Armistice Commission, however, ruled that the land, originally the property of the Palestine Electric Corporation, was Israeli territory.
No attempt was made this time by Legionnaires to interfere with the plowing which apparently took them by surprise. The nine tractors used in the operation were moved into the area across the dry bed of the Jordan River. The area is expected to yield winter crops.
