The Arab League political committee, meeting in Cairo, today decided upon a temporary delay in instituting a threatened economic boycott of West Germany because of refusal to abrogate the reparations pact with Israel, it was reported here today from the Egyptian capital.
The Arab League delay came after West Germany’s rejection yesterday of the Arab demands that the Israel pact not be ratified, A note from Bonn to this effect was delivered to Egyptian Premier Mohammed Naguib yesterday by German Ambassador Gruenther Pawelke. Premier Naguib had threatened Friday that if Bonn did not cancel the agreement with Israel the Arab world would sever its ties with Germany.
The Bonn note to Premier Naguib refused accept the Arab charge that German reparations shipments to Israel would increase the war potential of the Jewish State. The German Government offered to give the Arab states a formal guarantee that no military supplies would be sent to Israel, and also expressed its willingness to engage in individual trade talks with each of the Arab states to meet their economic demands.
