A Jewish orphanage for boys who lost their parents in Nazi death camps has been taken over by the Hungarian authorities and converted into an apartment house, reports received here from hungary state. The orphanage was located on Gorki Avenue in Budapest. The orphans were said to have been transferred to the ” old Buda ” section of the Hungarian capital.
Meanwhile, between 300 and 400 inhabitants of the Jewish Home for the Aged located on Hungaria-Koerut street in Budapest have been transferred en masse to the rural village of Balassa-Gyarmat, these same reports say. The aged people are living in a run-down government office building without running water, where conditions are described as ” very bad. ” The home from which they were removed–and which now houses select Hungarian Army cadets–was recently renovated and modernized by the Joint Distribution Committee.
