Some 300 stands at which people will be able to sign petitions to the Hungarian Government to permit the emigration of Jews who desire to go to Israel, were opened today throughout the Jewish State, Dr. M. Danzig, a representative of the Congress for the Immigration of Hungarian Jewry, today told a news conference that 250,000 Israelis have already signed the petitions which will be turned over to the Hungarian legation here.
He estimated that some 62,000 of Hungary’s Jewish population of 100,000 has applied for permission to leave for Israel. The Hungarian Government has refused to permit further emigration. A special congress will be held in Haifa Dec. 1 to discuss the problem of assisting Hungarian Jews to leave Hungary.
