Reports of the expulsion of Jews from Szeged, the second largest city in Hungary, were confirmed with the arrival here today of additional details on the expulsions.
The latest information says that the official reason given for the movement of the Jews is to prevent their crossing the border to Yugoslavia, which lies just across from Szeged. The Jews are said to have been put to work in Hungary’s rice fields. Some 2,000 Jewish families are believed to have been living in Szeged.
