A worldwide contest for original essays in modern Jewish history and contemporary Jewish affairs was announced today by the Department of Culture and Education of the World Jewish Congress. A total of $1,000 in prizes will be awarded for the three winning essays, dealing with political, economic, social or cultural aspects of Jewish life since the beginning of the 19th century. First prize will be $500, second prize $300, and third prize $200. Manuscripts can be up to 15,000 words in length.
