The New York Board of Rabbis expressed “strong disapproval” of the practice of holding daily prayers in the public schools of New York State, at a meeting this week-end.
The rabbis, who declared in a resolution that “the teaching of religion is the proper responsibility of the church, synagogue and home and not of the school, ” also opposed sectarian religious holiday observances and the released-time system. In addition, the board urged replacement of the McCarran immigration law with one more in consonance with American traditions and humanitarian ideals.
