Dr. Louis Wolsey, widely known Jewish leader and a leading figure in the Reform movement in America, died here yesterday at the age of 76.
Dr. Wolsey was active in founding the American Council for Judaism, but later left the organization on the grounds that it had lost its religious motivation and character. Although he had opposed the formation of a Jewish State, Rabbi Wolsey called on all Jews to support Israel after it was established. He served as a member of the board of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations and of the board of governors of the Hebrew Union College. He was also president of the Central Conference of American Rabbis in 1925.
CORRECTION
Owing to garbled cable transmission, the JTA Daily News Bulletin reported in its February 24 issue that there had been Communist interruptions at the dinner in London launching the 1953 drive of the Joint Palestine Appeal of Britain. The incidents incorrectly ascribed to this function occurred at another meeting on the same evening at which Soviet treatment of the Jews was publicly discussed.
