A resolution protesting Soviet anti-Semitism was adopted here last night by the Chicago Civic Committee Against Communist Religious Persecution at mass meeting. More than 1,500 persons attended the city-wide rally, which was organized by 50 civic, labor, veterans, fraternal, religious and women’s groups. The resolution reads as follows:
“We–as citizens of Chicago–representing all the principal religious faiths and all walks of life, unite in condemning and protesting this continuing policy of Soviet attack against religious beliefs and ethnic and cultural groups; and especially do we condemn and protest Communist anti-Semitism, this latest demonstration of Communist content for human decency.
“We appeal to free men the world over to denounce this threat to mankind. We urge the Government of the United States, the United National and the governments of all free countries, to mobilize world opinion against the Soviet Government and the governments of its satellites by reason of these crimes against humanity.”
Among the principal speakers were Senator Paul Douglas of Illinois, who warned the audience that Communist anti-Semitism threatens our very way of life; Frank Cronin, national mid-western regional director of the C.I.O., and Irwin Klass, editor of the A.F.L. Federations News. The chairman was Ely Aaron, Chicago attorney Co-sponsors of the rally were Samuel Cardinal Stritch, Archbishop of Chicago, the Reverend Gerhard Grauer, president of the Chicago Church Federation; and Rabbi Ralph Simon.
