Funeral services were held here today for Abraham Mazer, noted Jewish communal leader and outstanding philanthropist, who died Friday at the age of 77.
Messages of condolence were issued by the United Israel Appeal, the Israel Bond Organization, United Jewish Appeal, Yeshiva University, and the American Friends of the Hebrew University. Deeply interested in the State of Israel, Mr. Mazer was involved in the American-Israeli Paper Mill now under construction at Hadera. He also gave his active support to the American Friends of the Hebrew University, Jewish National Fund, United Jewish Appeal, Yeshiva University and founded the A. Mazer Free Loan Bank of Israel.
Mr. Mazer came to this country from the Ukraine. He was a penniless youth of 17 when he arrived. During his business career he established the Hudson Pulp and Paper Corporation, leading paper products manufacturers, whose plants in Florida, Vermont and Philadelphia now employ 3,000 persons.
