Eleven hundred immigrants arrived in Israel during March, but a larger number is expected in May, including a contingent of immigrants from Poland, a Jewish Agency spokesman announced today.
The first party of Jews who fled East Germany to West Berlin and wish to migrate to Israel will leave from Naples tomorrow. A second party is expected to leave in May. The arrangements were made by the Berlin immigration office reopened by the Jewish Agency after the recent anti-Jewish campaign.
Dr. George Josephthal, Jewish Agency treasurer, speaking at ceremonies marking the dedication of the new Keren Hayesod building in Tel Aviv, said that 45 new settlements accommodating 5,000 persons will be established this year. He added that new immigrants are being integrated into the agricultural life of the country and revealed that 50 percent of all agricultural settlements in Israel are now inhabited by new immigrants.
