The Anti-Defamation League of British today reported “a marked trend toward more democratic patronage policies” on the part of hotels and resorts in the Pocono Mountains area of Pennsylvania. The report stated that 71 percent of the hotels and resorts that gave indication of discriminatory policies in a similar study in 1950, no longer practice them today.
“Despite such progress,” the report noted, “some 13 percent of the hotels and retorts covered in the latest study are apparently guilty of discriminatory practices. And 48 percent of them carry language in their brochures and other, descriptive literature which can be, and often is, interpreted as indicating that the patronage of Jewish persons is unwelcome.” The new report was based on a six-month study of 92 resorts and hotels.
