Ford Foundation Grant in Israel Will Stumulate Whole Area

Basic scientific research of far-reaching significance for the whole Near East region will be greatly stimulated by the recently announced Ford Foundation grant to Israel, it was stated here today by the Israel Foundations Trustees, a body representing the country’s major educational and scientific institutions.

“The Ford Foundation’s grant of $410,000 for equipment and as a contribution to the first years operating expense, makes possible the expansion of research projects of vital importance to agricultural development, medical advancement and the social integration of Israel’s diverse population elements. All major Israel scientific and educational institutions will participate and cooperate in the various projects included in this scientific research program,” Theodore Kollek, chairman of the Israel Foundations Trustees, said.

“The basic objective of the program is to use scientific methods for the raising of the standard of living of the peoples of the area. The program gives special emphasis to a series of projects aimed at increasing food production,” Mr. Kollek continued. “The Israeli institutions will contribute Israeli pounds, scientific manpower and facilities to the execution of the program.”
