The House of Commons Industrial Relations Committee, which is considering a measure to ban discrimination in employment in Canada, has accepted two suggestions for amending the bill offered by the Canadian Jewish Congress.
The committee has agreed to amend the bill to include a ban on discrimination for reasons of nationality as well as for race, color, religion or national origin. The unit also agreed to bar the use of application forms asking questions about these points.
The United Nations Association of Canada has submitted a resolution to the Secretary of State for External Affairs deploring “the renewal of anti-Semitism in Eastern and Central Europe” and urging that action be taken to bring the facts on this campaign to the attention of the UN at the next session of the General Assembly. The resolution also urged Canada to provide help and refuge to those banished or escaped from the Soviet Union and satellite states.
