The Hebrew Union College-Jewish institute of Religion, the only seminary of Reform Judaism in the United States, will open its New York rabbinic courses for the first time to undergraduates attending colleges and universities, it is announced by Dr. Nelson Glueck, president of the College-Institute.

Arrangements have been completed with the New York colleges under which undergraduates may receive credit toward their bachelor’s degrees for courses taken at the College-Institute, Dr. Glueck said Students will be able to attend courses simultaneously at the rabbinic school, and at the college of their choice. Courses in Hebrew, Jewish history, education, Bible and allied subjects will be among those accepted as elective credits toward the liberal arts degree.

This arrangement makes it possible for undergraduates to pursue concurrently studies leading to the Bachelor of Arts or Sciences degree and to the Bachelor of Hebrew Letters degree, which the College-Institute confers. The new program is open to all college students whether they are candidates for the rabbinate or not, Dr. Glueck said. Classes at the College-Institute will be scheduled to avoid conflict with university courses.
