Israel will have more than 1,500,000 denims (375,000 acres) of land under irrigation by 1960 under its present plans for economic expansion, Levi Eshkol, Israel Finance Minister, today told 20,000 men and women gathered in Straus Square on New York’s Lower East Side at a meeting sponsored by the Israel Bond campaign.

At present, only 500,000 denims in Israel are irrigated, Mr. Eshkol told the meeting, while in 1948 only 200,000 were irrigated. The irrigation planned for 1960, he said, will represent almost half of Israel’s total cultivated area. The Finance Minister emphasized that the advances projected in irrigation are typical of development planned for Israel’s entire economy. The Israel Minister also stressed the importance of the Israel Bond Issue.
