The strength of the modern Jewish nation lies in the Jewish State and in the Bible, Premier David Ben Gurion declared here today in an address to Milo, a club of artists and writers. In the past, he added, the Jewish nation survived because of its religion and because of the hatred which surrounded it.

Asserting that both the state and the Bible were of some significance in the life of the Jewish people, Mr. Ben Gurion urged the writers to “revitalize the Bible — that wonderful, powerful book which has influenced many nations, but which has been to the Jews the very source of life.” He stated that the Bible should be “actualized” in the letter and spirit in which it had been conceived.
