Adlai Stevenson today suggested that a meeting of the Premiers of Israel and the Arab states would Constitute an important step toward the establishment of peace and stability in the Middle East.
Addressing a press conference prior to his departure from Israel, where he spent the last five days, Mr. Stevenson admitted that during his tours of the Arab states he was not impressed by any Arab readiness to participate in such a meeting. But, he insisted, both Israeli and Arab leaders hold a mutual desire for the establishment of peace and normal relations, although a deep feeling of hostility toward Israel still exists among the Arabs. He urged U.S. aid in stabilizing the region.
