Institute of Israel Culture Opens in U.s.; Conducted in Hebrew

Leading American Jewish educators and guest lecturers from Israel are participating in the second annual Summer Institute on Israel Culture, sponsored by the World Zionist Organization and the American Association for Jewish Education, which opened here today. The opening session was devoted to the memory of the late Dr. Hayim Greenberg, founder of the WZO’s Department of Culture and Education, who established the Institute last year.

Thirty-five teachers, principals and other Jewish educators registered for the Institute which will be conducted entirely in Hebrew. The lecturers include Professor Michael Avi-Yonah, of the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, who will speak on the historical geography of Israel and Professor Shlomo Shpan, Supervisor of Secondary Education of the Israel Ministry of Education, who will discuss recent Hebrew literature.

Other lecturers include Avraham Harman, Israel Consul General and Eliezer Doron, Israel Consul in New York, Yehuda Levitt, Israel Economic Consul, and Moshe Rivlin and David Marmor of the Israel Office of Information in New York, Shaul Hareli of the Jewish Agency for Palestine and Dr. Judah Pilch of the American Association for Jewish Education. A similar cultural institute, under the same sponsorship will open in Los Angeles on August 17.
