The Jewish Agency today opened a hostel to house 60 experts from countries in the Western Hemisphere who are to help in the development of Israel. The residents of the hostel include physicians, engineers and architects from the United States and other countries.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, G. Josephthal, treasurer of the Jewish Agency, said: “The free world gave us financial and material aid but no manpower.” He called on those already residing in the hostel and those who are to come to live there, to develop love for Israel and love for Jerusalem. “Despite the fact that you might sometimes be lonely, and sometimes homesick, you must nevertheless know that you are assisting in the building of our state – one of the boldest ventures of all times.” he said.
Mayor Kariv of Jerusalem welcomed the experts. “Jerusalem needs you to develop the city and to help her stand on her own feet,” he declared. Mrs. Rose Halprin, American member of the Jewish Agency executive, in welcoming the residents of the hostel, told them that they bear tremendous responsibility because they are the vanguard of those to come who are waiting for words from those who are already in Israel.
