In 1943 the two were in charge of the Gestapo in Offenbach near Frankfurt ### though Jews living in mixed marriage were not yet subject to deportation at ### Schmitz and Hedderich went beyond even the official Nazi instructions by de### scores of such Jews from Offenbach country.
