Ancient Biblical Scrolls May Be Destroyed Due to Lack of Fu

For the lack of about $30,000, there is dange### that some of the earliest Biblical Scrolls–discovered on the banks of the De### last year–may be destroyed or lost, it was stated here today by G. Lankest### ing, director of Antiquities in Jordan, at a meeting of the Palestine Explorat###. He told of Arab tribes stripping bare caves containing a wealth of Biblical ma### the existence of which was not previously suspected.

Coins found in a settlement in the area were dated 10 A. D. and evidence that the occupation ended about 70 A. D., Mr. Harding stated. The amount ### al discovered was amazing, he said. “Most of what’s been written about pall### is going to have to be revised considerably in view of the recent discovery.”

The problem of sorting and identifying the material would be great, Mr. ### said. He reported that he prepared plans for taking to Jerusalem, for one ### international group of scholars for this work.
