The American ORT Federation today reported that 780 skilled mechanics were graduated this year from 18 vocational centers operated by the ORT in Israel. “The graduates are expected to be snapped up quickly by Israel’s industries, which suffer from a severe shortage of technically trained personnel,” the report said.

“Their newly acquired skills,” the report pointed out, “cover a wide range of trades, including refrigeration, tool-making, electrical work, agricultural machinery mechanics, automobile mechanics, radio, carpentry, dental mechanics, sewing and cutting, watchmaking and art-weaving. The ORT school for dental mechanics in Jerusalem and the watchmakers’ school at Jaffa are the only institutions in the country training workers in these skills.”
