The Israel-Jordan Mixed Armistice Commission today refused to uphold Israeli charges that Jordanian forces were responsible for the murder of three Israeli soldiers in the Beit Jibrin area yesterday. The Commission, which was told by the United Nations observers that tracks from the scene of the ambush led to Jordan territory, ruled that there was no “technical” evidence to support the charge.

The soldiers, on border patrol, were walking along a road in the Beth Jibrin region when they were caught in automatic rifle crossfire from both sides of the road. All three were killed before they could defend themselves. Their attackers stripped them of their rifles before withdrawing.
