The fate of the Jews in revolt-torn Iran was discussed at a press conference here today by a Jewish Agency spokesman, who stated that there are still 80,000 to 100,000 Jews in that country.
The spokesman said that nearly 32,000 Persian Jews have come to Israel since the Jewish State was established. He reported that 140 Jews who had left Iran on the eve of the outbreak of the civil war are currently on the high seas approaching Haifa, where they are expected to land tomorrow.
Speaking of ### Jews in other Moslem countries, the spokesman said that the Jewish Agency is continuing to work on its plans to transfer 250,000 Jews from Morocco to Israel. He revealed that the Jewish community of Aden has appealed to the Board of Deputies of British Jews to ask the British Colonial Office to intervene with the protectorate authorities to admit several hundred Yemenite Jews who are wandering in the desert near Aden’s borders hoping to get to Israel.
Finally, the spokesman revealed that four more immigrant camps are scheduled to be liquidated by the end of this year, bringing the number closed in 1953 to 14. At the end of the year 71 immigrant villages will remain in operation.
