The Columbia University today announced that five Atran scholarships for the study of Yiddish language, literature, and culture at the graduate level are being offered for 1954-55. Each scholarship is worth $600 and covers the bulk of a year’s tuition fees at Columbia.
Recipients are enabled to combine their specialized studies in Yiddish linguistics, literature, or culture research with training in more general fields such as comparative philology, comparative literature, modern history, or cultural anthropology. The scholarships, like the Chair in Yiddish, were made possible in 1952 by a grant to Columbia University from the Atran Foundation.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
