Netherlands Art Commission Urges Restoration of Old Synagogue

A commission of art experts has informed the Netherlands Ministry of Art that restoration of a 17th century Sephardic synagogue in Amsterdam is “most urgent.” The synagogue, which now serves some 500 people, was miraculously saved from destruction during the war and the Nazi occupation and is one of the national monuments “protected” by the government, which will also share the cost of its restoration.
