The Civil Aviation Board of the Allied High Commission has under advisement an application by El Al Israel National Airlines for permission to make regularly scheduled landings at German airports to pick up freight. No question of reciprocity of landing rights is involved and for the time being the application does not cover passenger traffic.
Landing rights are being sought to enable the Israeli carriers to pick up urgent items of reparations freight. Carriage of these items by the Israeli line would enable the Israeli Treasury to conserve foreign exchange. Certain difficulties relating to type of aircraft and directness of route must be resolved before the landing rights are granted. El Al would like to make Duenseldorf a stopover on its freight run from London and Paris to Zurich, Rome and Lydda.
